      Edward Earl Bass

Edward Earl Bass Sr., 90, Goldsboro, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Wayne UNC Hospital.

Ed was born in Wayne County Feb. 27, 1928, to the late Henry King Bass and Dora Watkins Bass. He was married for 60 years to the late Eleanor Brown Bass.

Ed proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

He had retired from food sales with Biggers Brothers, now known as U.S. Foods.

Ed was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, and one of his proudest moments was when he took a mission trip to Kenya.

He will be remembered by many as an excellent craftsman, and prior to his mission trip, he carved many crosses that he gave to the people of Kenya.

Ed lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community.

He volunteered in his community in many ways, including with the Wayne County Boys Club, and was instrumental in forming the Goldsboro Touchdown Club.

Ed had a wonderful sense of humor, and never took himself too seriously. He was a good friend and a great father, and had a generous heart.

He provided a wonderful home for his family, and gave all he could to his family and strangers alike.

A service to celebrate Ed's life will be Sunday, April 15, 2018, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert F. Bardin officiating. A private interment will be held in Willow Dale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the service in McChesney Hall.

Ed is survived by his sons, Edward Earl Bass Jr. and wife, Christa, of Kenansville and Robert Ennett Bass of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Ashley Kristen Bass of Wilmington and Matthew Edward Bass of Cary; great-grandchildren, Layla Bass and Talen Turner; brother, Ollie D. Bass of Van Wyck, S.C.; and sister, Barbara Bass Hughey of Goldsboro.
