CUMBERLAND - Louis J. Bessette, 87, Scott Road, formerly of Pawtucket, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Doris E. (Lapham) Bessette. Mr. & Mrs. Bessette had been married for sixty-one years.
Born in Central Falls, a son of the late Hormidas and Mederise (Giroux) Bessette, he had lived in Pawtucket for most of his life, moving to Cumberland five years ago.
Mr. Bessette worked at Hope Webbing Co., Narragansett Brewery, and Conant Thread Co., retiring in 1997.
He volunteered for many years as a softball coach for the Fairlawn Cardinals, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Shirley Duncan of South Attleboro, Mass.; two sons, Steven Bessette and Robert Bessette, both of Pawtucket; one granddaughter, Krystal Vasconcelos; one step-granddaughter, Melissa Kane; four great grandchildren; two step-great great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Karen L. Stanley; and was pre-deceased by his six sisters and three brothers.
His funeral will be celebrated Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call prior to the service from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. His burial in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket, will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of R.I., 1085 North Main Street, Providence, R.I. 02904 would be appreciated.
