Quincy Bassett Gilliam Jr.
SMITHFIELD - Dr. Quincy Bassett Gilliam Jr., 61, born Jan. 9, 1947, in Newport News, Va., passed Jan. 21, in his home. Raised in Isle of Wight County. He is the only son of Elva T. Gilliam and the late Quincy B. GIlliam. A retired dentist, he practiced in Isle of Wight County. He graduated from Smithfield High School. He was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Lynchburg College, and VCU School of Dentistry. He sat on the Smithfield Town Council. He was recently awarded the Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. He was an avid sailor, enjoyed history and the restoration of older homes. He is survived by wife, Sarah Andrews Gilliam; his daughter, Rebecca; and his son, Quincy III, both of Smithfield; granddaughter, Zarah of Nova Scotia, Canada; his mother of Smithfield; two sisters, Edith Raby of Smithfield and Susan Dileanis of Sacramento, Calif.; a nephew, Brian F. Yeoman of Windermere, Fla.; and two great-nephews and a great-niece. Visitation will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at his residence, Hayden Hall in Smithfield, Va. The funeral service will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at St. Luke's Church, 14477 Benns Church Blvd., Smithfield, VA 23430 in Isle of Wight County with the Rev. Gary Barker and the Rev. Macon Walton officiating. Burial will follow service at Old St. Luke's Church cemetery.
