Minerva Bone Bassett (Picture included)
Minerva Bone Bassett was born May 17, 1915, in Jacksonville to Dr. John N. Bone and Roxie Brasfield Bone.
She finished Jacksonville High School and was salutatorian in a class of 88 students. She graduated with honors from Jacksonville College, and received a B.A. Degree with honors from Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tenn.
She married William Kerr Bassett on Jan. 14, 1939, in Berkeley, Calif. Mrs. Bassett made her home in San Francisco, Calif., Washington, D.C., Long Beach, Calif., Alexandria, Va., and Bethesda, Md. She moved to Tyler in Sept. 1992. She was active in civic and club affairs and in genealogical circles.
Mrs. Bassett was preceded in death by her husband, William Kerr Bassett; and sisters, Mrs. Alma Ruth Beall and Mrs. Kathryn Chatfield.
She is survived by sons, William Kerr Bassett II of Castalian Springs, Tenn., John Bone Bassett and wife Carla of Newark, Del.; granddaughters, Jennifer Bassett Rudzinsk and husband Rick of Castalian Springs, Tenn., Deborah Bassett Parrish and husband Christian of Bowling Green, Ky., and Miriam Bassett Scherer and husband Wayne Scherer of Benton, Penn.; great-grandson, Kyle Burk Rudzinski of Castalian Springs, Tenn.; great-grandaughter, Jacquelyn Rachel Scherer of Benton, Penn.; brother, Dr. Robert Bone and wife Marsha of Emerald Bay, Bullard; sisters, Mrs. Frances Urban and husband Robert of Tyler, and Dr. Mary Alice Bone Adamson and husband Judge John Robert of Jacksonville; and many nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, at the city cemetery in Jacksonville under the direction of Autry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701; or H.O.P.E., 575 S. Ragsdale, Jacksonville, 75766.
