Alice M. Bass, August 17, 2020
Alice McLean Bass, (83), of Hampton, VA, began her immortal rest on August 17, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ronald S. Bass. Alice was born in April 1937 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Her father, Alex McLean, emigrated from Scotland to North Carolina, where he met her mother, Edna Rochelle McLean. Edna was born and raised in Jacksonville, NC. The McLeans had two children: Alice, and her brother, James McLean. Her parents moved to Hampton, VA in the early 1930s and resided there until their deaths in 1981 (Edna) and 1993 (Alex). Though living in Hampton at the time, her mother insisted on driving from Virginia to North Carolina to be with her family in time for Alice?s labor and delivery. Alice was raised in Hampton, VA. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1955. Alice met her husband, Ronald, on a blind date during her senior year of high school. Ronald and Alice married on September 5, 1955. They were married for 52 years until the time of his death in early December 2007. They have two children: a son, Ronald Todd Bass (born in 1963), and a
daughter, Samantha Bass (born in 1972). She was an avid reader (especially the romance genre) and loved to complete word search
puzzles. She also enjoyed watching reality television shows and had a huge crush on Tom Selleck since the debut of Magnum P.I. in the 1980s. She was a long time member of the Women?s Club of Hampton, along with past volunteer work with the Friends of the Hampton
Public Library. Alice is survived by her two children: Samantha and Todd, with his wife, Carol; three grandchildren: Tina, Sarah, and Michael with his wife, Heidi; one great-grandchild, Sophie; Alice?s brother: James McLean of Roper, NC and his son, Joseph McLean also residing in NC;
and brother-in-law: Henry Bass of Gloucester, VA and his children residing in the Peninsula area of Virginia. Her favorite memories involved time spent with her family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society.
