Billie W. Bassett
May 27, 1917 - May 9, 2001
WOODBURN - Billie Bassett, 83, died Wednesday. Born in Phillipsburg, Mont., he
graduated from Vernonia High School and Oregon State University. He worked for
the Bureau of Public Roads, constructing the Alcan Highway to Alaska. He later
served in the Navy and retired as a bridge engineer from the U.S. Forest
Service. After his retirement, he moved to Woodburn. Survivors include his
wife, Verna (Schmidt), whom he married in 1939 and sisters, Bobbie Hays of
Salmon, Idaho, and Beverly Prince of Fairbanks, Alaska. Private interment will
be at Williamette National Cemetery in Portland. Arrangements are by Restlawn

Billie Worthington Bassett
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, in the Woodburn
Senior Estates clubhouse for Billie Worthington Bassett, who died May 9 at age
83. Mr. Bassett was born May 27, 1917, in Philipsburg, Mont. and was raised in
Vernonia. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacifi
Afterward, he graduated from Oregon State College and moved to Portland, where
he was a bridge engineer for the U.S. Forest Service for 10 years, retiring in
the early 1980s, when he moved to Woodburn. In the early 1940s, he married
Verna Schmidt. Survivors include his wife; and sisters, Bobbie Hays and
Beverly Prince. Interment in Williamette National Cemetery. Arrangements by
Restlawn in Salem.
