Charles E. Bassett
Longtime resident Charles Edward Bassett, 57, died March 15 at his Wasilla
residence of natural causes. Following his cremation, internment will be in the
Rehoboth Village Cemetery in Rehoboth, Mass. A memorial service will be held at
2 p.m. Saturday in the Sunny Knik Chapel at Mile 14 Knik Goose Bay Road. Mr.
Bassett was born May 5, 1933, in Attleboro, Mass. He was a graduate of
Rehoboth-Dighton High School in Dighton, Mass., and attended the University of
Massachusetts. He was a Korean war veteran and was wounded. He was in the U.S.
Navy and served as a medic for the Marines. Mr. Bassett joined the Army in
Germany. He worked in security and raised sled dogs. He was preceded in death
by his sister, Valerie Kenyon. Mr. Bassett is survived by his sisters, Rae La
Croix of California, Esther Ellsworth of Nevada, and Carol Manning of
Massachusetts; his brothers, Newton of California, Harvey of Oklahoma, and
Ronald of Massachusetts; and 27 nieces and nephews. Arrangements were by
Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.

Charles Edward Bassett
Charles Edward Bassett, 57, formerly of Pine Street, Seekonk, Mass. died unexpectedly March 15 at home.
Born in Attleboro, son of the late Harvey Waldo Bassett and Mabel (Benedict) Bassett, he had lived in the Rehoboth/Seekonk area most of his life before moving to Alaska 27 years ago.
He had devoted his life to breeding and raising racing sled dogs for the Atarod Races in Alaska.
A graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, he had attended the University of Massachusetts for two years, the University of Alaska for two years, and Alaska Methodist University for one year.
A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served as a medic for the Marines. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He also later served in the Army for three years, stationed in Germany.
He leaves three sisters, Esther Ellsworth of Reno, Nev., Rae LaCroix of Sylmar, Calif., and Carol Manning of Seekonk; and three brothers, Newton Bassett of Auburn, Calif., Ronald Basset of Hyannis and Harvey Bassett of Chandler, Okla.
Memorial Services were held in Knik, Alaska, on March 23. Burial was in Rehoboth Village Cemetery, Rehoboth, Mass.
