Harriet L. (Bassett ) Fitton
FITTON, Harriet L. (Bassett), 81, of Miller Avenue, Rumford died Friday,
September 16 at Miriam Hospital, Providence. She was the beloved wife of David
C. Fitton. Mr. and Mrs. Fitton celebrated their 58th anniversary on May 15.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Charles F. and Marjorie (Lefebvre)
Bassett, she had lived in Rumford for the past 58 years.
Mrs. Fitton was a secretary in the Engineering Department of the former United
Transit Company, now RIPTA, Providence for six years before retiring. She was
a member of Newman Congregational Church, Rumford. She was involved with the
Nature Conservancy. She was a member of the East Providence Land Conservation
Trust and Save the Bay. She was a former assistant leader in the Girl Scouts.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Barbara F. Husband and a
brother, Charles F. Bassett, Jr., both of Rumford; and several nieces a
nephews.
Her funeral service and burial will be private. Calling Hours are respectfully
