FALL RIVER, MA ? Francis X. Dufour Jr., 84, of Fall River, died Monday, February 15, 2010, at Saint Anne?s Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Frank and Lorraine (Bessette) Dufour, he was the husband of Annette L. (Berube) Dufour, with whom he shared a sixty-four year marriage.
He served his country during WWII with the United States Army. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was a Purple Heart recipient. Mr. Dufour worked for the former A&P Supermarket in Warren, RI, as the produce manager and then for Grand Central Markets in Tiverton, RI, and Somerset, MA as the assistant manager, retiring in 1988. After he retired, he worked as a courier for the former Slades Ferry Bank for several years.
Francis was a communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish in Fall River. He also volunteered at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River with the Mended Hearts Organization. He enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends, taking trips to the casino and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Dufour leaves two daughters, Debra Howard and her husband Gordon of Dartmouth, MA, and Diane Harlow and her husband Bert of Fall River; a son, Brian F. Dufour and his wife Riza of Little Rock, AR; a sister, Claire Charland of Ft. Myers, FL; six grandchildren, Scott, Wendy, Ken, Ryan, Brandon and Chelsey; five great-grandchildren, Jen, Scott Jr., Rachel, Morgan and Ava; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Pamela Berryman.
His funeral service will be held Friday, February 19, 2010, at 9:00am from THE HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, 529 Eastern Ave., Fall River, with burial to follow with Military Honors in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
