Mary E. Bassett
ASHLAND - Mary E. Bassett, 94, of Ashland, died Tuesday, March 21,
2006, at the Overlook Masonic Health Center in Charlton.
She was the wife of the late Charles H. Bassett.
Born in Port Hood, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late John
and Eliza (Smith) McNeil. She grew up in Framingham and graduated from
Framingham High School, Class of 1929.
She worked as a secretary for Telechron Co., and later at Gener
Electric in Ashland, and Prudential Insurance Co. in Framingham. Mary ran the
Historical House Kindergarten for 15 years with her partner Lorana Tibbetts.
She was a member of the Ashland Federated Church, sang in their choir,
taught Sunday School, was director of the church thrift shop, and was a past
president and secretary of the Phi Delta woman's group. She helped stock the
Ashland Town Hall food pantry as well as "A Place to Run" in Natick, and was a
member of the Friends of the Library in Ashland.
