- E.G. Bassett Scholar, Dies on Cape Visit
BREWSTER, June 10 - E. Gordon Bassett, 60, educator, translator and a
former foreign representative for the First National Bank of Boston, di
unexpectedly in his sleep today at the home of a friend, Conrad P. Aike
poet.
A native of Harwich, Mr. Bassett had lived for the past 20 years at
389 Marlboro street, Boston.
He was graduated from Harvard in 1912, and taught Spanish and French
at Iowa State College for several years. He became an executive of an Oriental
rug importing firm on Newbury street in 1936.
He had done translations for Harvard University and several publishing
firms and served as indexer for the Harvard University Press, Ginn & Co. and
other book firms.
He leaves a brother, Alden L. Bassett of South Dennis. Services will
be held Wednesday at 3 P.M. at the South Dennis Congregational Church, with
burial in South Dennis cemetery.
