Lester L. Bassett
1944 ? 2021
Windham - Lester Lee Bassett, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully July 2, 2021, at home, at the age of 77.
He was one of ten children born to the late John E. and Ruth E. (Franklin) Bassett. He graduated from Norwich Technical School and began working for Soloman and Knapp Plumbing and Heating.
He married the love of his life, Linda, started a family, and began working at the University of Connecticut where he retired after 30 years of service.
Meanwhile working part time as a projectionist at the Capitol Theater in Willimantic, the College Theatre in Storrs, and the Mansfield Training School.
Lester enjoyed playing cards with friends, watching UConn basketball, playing golf until he retired, was a lifelong New York Yankees fan, and was always ready for the Super Bowl.
He loved watching horseracing and was known to place a bet now and then. After retiring, landscaping became his passion. Whether it was planting trees, shrubs, flowers, or just mowing his lawn, he loved every minute of it.
Lester was a hard worker and always willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed it. He was a lifetime member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 1311 and Franco American Civic & Social Club.
He was a member of the Windham Golf Club during his golfing years.
Lester is survived by his wife, Linda (Wojick) Bassett, son, Donald Bassett, daughter, Christine (Bassett) Bernard, and grandchildren, Joseph, Jenna, and Juliana Bernard. He is survived by several siblings including his brothers, John Bassett and his wife Pat, and Walter "Skip" Bassett, his sisters, Phyllis Coombs, Linda Anderson, Cynthia and her husband Dave Wildowski, Barbara and her husband Jeff Bitgood, Sheryl and her husband Steve Shea, brother-in-law, Michael Wojick, sister-in-law, Patricia Wojick, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard, sister Ruth (Schaefer), brothers-in-law Raymond Anderson and Richard Coombs, and sister-in-law Betty Bassett.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life honoring Lester on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 1 pm at the Willimantic Elks Lodge 1311. Please join his family as they share many happy memories.
