In Memory of Muriel Jamieson, Obituary

      Muriel Jamieson, 99

CHATHAM, Mass. ? Mrs. Muriel Jamieson, née Bassett, peacefully finished 10 decades of life on September 9, 2015.

A life-long resident of Cape Cod, Muriel was long known for her impeccable style and grace, which included her signature jewelry pieces ? long rows of silver and turquoise bangles, many of which she brought home with her from many years of snow-bird winters in Tempe, Ariz.

In her life she had two great loves: John D. Stevenson, her husband of 36 years who passed away in 1979, and Thomas Jamieson of Chatham, who passed away after 13 years of marriage. Through these unions, she became the matriarch of a family that included three children, two step-children, and their spouses, who in turn gave her 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, as well as countless nieces and nephews.

As the proprietor of Next-2-Nu, a consignment shop she operated from her home for several years in North Chatham, she also shared her love for beautiful things that carry a story of their own with others. Her other secrets to longevity were a buoyant sense of humor, voracious reading, an unwavering loyalty to the Boston Red Sox ? having enjoyed seeing them win three World Series titles in her lifetime ? attention to politics, and one (light) beer a day.

She is survived by her sister, Sylvia Grossman of Billings, Mont.; three children: Diane MacDougall of New Bern, N.C., Colin M. Stevenson of Harwich, Mass., and Sharon Desnoyer of Flagstaff, Ariz.; her daughter-in-law Jane L. Stevenson and Son-in-law Ernest 'Pete' Desnoyer; two step-children: Donald Jamieson and his wife Roberta of Chatham, and Helen Nickerson of Norfolk, Neb., and their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen Fulcher, Earline Kelley, brother Ralph 'Buddy' Bassett, Jr., and her son-in-law James 'Skip' MacDougall.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19 at People's Cemetery in Chatham at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chatham Fire Association at 221 Crowell Road, Chatham, MA 02633-2011, which played an integral role in the quality of Ms. Jamieson's last years.
