Erna G. Bessette
ERNA G. BESSETTE, 72, of Hill Crest Apartments on Leander Street, a residential counselor, died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital, in Reno, Nev., while attending an Elks' convention.
She was the wife of the late Ernest Bessette. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Frederick and Gertrude (Deitel) Ormsbee, she had lived in Providence and Johnston, and then had moved to Kissimee, Fla., for eight years, before moving back to Providence in 1981.
Mrs. Bessette worked for Strategies to Independence, of Norwood, Mass., as a residential counselor.
She was a member and tiler officer of the Providence-Cranston Elks Lodge, BPOE 14, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, in Orlando, Fla.
She was an avid bingo player.
She leaves three daughters, Brenda J. Grundy of North Kingstown, Sharon L. Janicki-Phillips of Johnston and Gloria J. Vargus of Conway, N.H., and Deland, Fla.; a son, Joseph Mazzatto of Warwick; four sisters, Alice Nelson of Springfield, Ore., Lena Junier of Tinole, Calif., Vi Parks of Los Angeles, Calif., and Matilda Wood of Homer, Ga.; three brothers, Harold Ormsbee of Loughman, Fla., Elmer Ormsbee of Bryceville, Fla., and Ralph Ormsbee of Deland, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Darrin J. Mazzatto.
The funeral service will be on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Winfield & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, Route 116, Scituate. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
