Joseph E. Bessette
BESSETTE, Joseph E. September 30, 2003. Beloved husband of Janine I. (Borkowski) Bessette. Father of Steven J. Bessette and David A. Bessette (Lt. Newport Police Dept.) Brother of the late Albert, Arthur and Ernest Bessette and Yvonne Jutras. Grandfather of Justin, Michael and Shanna Bessette. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Residence Home Ave., Providence. Funeral Saturday at 8:00 a.m. from The Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Pius V Church, Eaton St., Providence. Burial with military honors in the R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. JOSEPH E. BESSETTE, 82, of Home Avenue, a retired etcher and painter, died
Tuesday at the Elmhurst Extended Care Facility.
He was the husband of Janine I. (Borkowski) Bessette. They had been married
for 57 years. Born in Moosup, Conn., a son of the late Alfred and Rose
(Imbeault) Bessette, he had lived in Providence most of his life.
Mr. Bessette had been an etcher at the Nicholson File Co. before being
assigned to the facilities-management department, working there for 27 years
before retiring in 1973. He had also been a self-employed painter for many
years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of DAV Chapter 21.
He enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, and bowling, and was a Boston
Red Sox fan.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Steven J. Bessette of Cranston and
David A. Bessette of Portsmouth; three grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews. He was a brother of the late Albert, Arthur and Ernest Bessette,
and Yvonne Jutras.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. from Russell J. Boyle & Son
Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at
9 in St. Pius V Church, Eaton Street, Providence. Burial, with military
honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
