Miller "Slim" Bassett
Bassett. Miller "Slim" Bassett, 72, of Ridgewood Trail, Coventry, husband of
Lorraine Decelles Bassett, died Thursday, (Mar. 7, 1996) at St. Francis
Hospital, Hartford. He was born Aug. 6, 1923 in Brewster, MA the son of the
late Miller and Florence (Newcomb) Bassett. He resided on Cape Cod until
moving to Coventry 45 years ago. He had been employed as a construction
foreman for Standard Builders in Connecticut for many years and also operated
from his own shop a business known as Coventry Craftsman. Mr. Bassett was a
communicant of St. Mary's Church, Coventry, was a former Boy Scout Leader and
was a member of the Manchester Coon and Fox Club. In addition to his wife, he
is survived by three sons, John Bassett of Southington, Thomas Basse
Canterbury and Timothy Bassett of Windham; four daughters, Janet Nie
Brockton, MA, Pamela Lamping of Lisbon, Rachel Mackay of Mechanicsville, VA,
and Sarah Glennon of Canterbury; two stepsons, Lt. Col Arthur Decell
Fairfax, VA and Marc Decelles of Tolland; two step daughters, Elaine Kilgus of
Mansfield Center and Theresa Goodhue of Greensboro, OH; 21 grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first two wives, Phyllis
Bassett and Georgianna Bassett. The Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesda
(Mar. 12) at St. Mary's Church, 1600 Main Street, Coventry. Burial will follow
in St. Mary's Cemetery, Coventry. Relatives and friends are also invited to
attend calling hours Monday, 6-9 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson
St. (Route 195), Willimantic. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be
made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, 06492.
