Winthrop N. "Bo" Bassett, 80 March 15, 2002
Cummaquid - Winthrop Nelson "Bo" Bassett, 80, a resident of Cummaquid,
died March 3, 2002, at Cape Code Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Carolina Rose Bassett for 55 year
Born and educated in Brewster, Mr. Bassett attended Rutgers
University.
He served for four years in the Army Air Corps in Colorado. He was
supervisor of overhead distribution for the former New Bedford Gas & Edison
Light Co., Cape & Vineyard Division.
Mr. Bassett was a life member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting, fishing
and shellfishing. An avid gardener, he was well-known locally for his
vegetables.
He was a direct descendant of William and Elizabeth Bassett, who
sailed to Plymouth on Nov. 9, 1621, on the ship Fortune, arriving just a few
weeks after the first Thanksgiving.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Cliff Bassett of South
Yarmouth and Kim Bassett of Cummaquid; two daughters, Debra Sprague and Linda
Harrington, both of West Yarmouth; a brother, Harry "Bud" Bassett of
Ellsworth, Maine, and Florida; three sisters, Evelyn Herald and Marge Lee,
both of South Yarmouth; and Gene Boswell of Norfolk, Va.; nine grandchildren;
and five great-children.
A graveside service was held in Evergreen Cemetery in Harwic
