- Matthew Thompson was engaged in the grocery business.
Excerpt from Autobiography of Isaac Newton Bassett
My Aunt Sarah was married to Mathew Thomson and settled on a farm just west of my father's adjoining it and extending to Kinniconick west. The Thompson family was an old Virginia family. There were, besides Matthew, four brothers, John, William, Alexander and Milton, all who lived not far from my father's in Kentucky. My Aunt Sarah had a very large family. Matthew a son of Aunt Sarah was married to a girl named Noel in Scioto Co. Ohio near Portsmouth and engaged in the grocery business which he conducted for 25 or 30 years and died in 1889, or about that time, leaving one son, Frank, who is still in the business.
