Ira Bass Shot
Ira R. Bass was seriously wounded by the accidental discharge of a pistol, at Dunning on last Saturday night. The young man formerly resided in Broken Bow and a short time ago moved to Dunning, where he went into the hardware business. At the time of the accident he and another young man were fooling with a couple of pistols, by twirling them on their fore fingers in cowboy fashion. Both pistols were thought to be empty but the one which the other young man had contained one 22 calibre shell. In some manner the pistol was discharged, the ball striking the fifth rib and took lodging in the heavy muscles of the back. Dr. Buckley was called and took the midnight train for Dunning, where he in company with Dr. Owings of Dunning decided it was best to remove the patient to Broken Bow. Mr. Bass was brought to this city by Dr. Buckley on Sunday morning?s train and has since been at the home of his brother, James Bass. After arriving here the ball was located by means of the ex-ray but was thought best not to operate for it. Bass is getting along as well as could be expected under so serious and accident, and, barring complications, it is thought he will recover in a reasonable time. Custer County Chief.
