  Notes	The Sun, Lowell, Massachusetts, 18 Jun 2002 Thomas F. 'Fred' Bassett LOWELL - Thomas F. "Fred" Bassett, 90, a lifelong Lowell resident, died at home on Sunday, June 16, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Nellie (Czekanski) (Bonczar) Bassett. He was born in Lowell on Jan. 2, 1912, a son of Thomas and Catherine (Donovan) Bassett and graduated from Lowell High School in 1920. Mr. Bassett enlisted in the National Guard on Jan. 18, 1937, and served until his honorable dischrage on Jan. 17, 1940. He had been employed at the Indian Head Resort, The Box Factory and the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1951, Mr. Bassett began working as a machine operator at General Electric Co. in Lowell, retiring in 1976 after 25 years of service. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Margaret Church, and a member of Legends at Lowell High School, where he faithfully attended the annual dinner. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Dennis J. Janowicz of Tyngsboro, and Helen and William Furey of Lowell; two sons, Michael Bonczar of Milford, N.H. and Richard T. Bassett of Boston; a sister, Dorothy Crowley of Lowell; two brothers, Arthur Bassett of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Edward "Ned" Bassett of El Paso, Texas. He also leaves five granddaughters, Patricia Green and her husband Jason of Dracut, Mary Casasnovas, and Lyn A. Snow and her husband Christopher, all of Lowell, Lisa Biron of New Boston, N.H., and Erin Furey of Chelmsford; five grandsons, John M. Burns, Robert Emerson and his wife Roberta, Michael Emerson, and William M. Furey, all of Lowell, and Michael Bonczar Jr. and his wife Stacey of Keene, N.H.; 11 great-grandchildren, Patrick Emerson, Robert Emerson, Merit Emerson, Angelina Burns, Kelsey Burns, Jack Burns, Ashli Casasnovas, and Bryan Snow, all of Lowell, Michelle Green and Jason Green of Dracut, and Rachel Biron of New Boston, N.H. He was also the father of the late Jacqueline Emerson, and brother of the late Sister Mary Flilicitas, Alice Bebler and Claire Bassett.
