David Dale Bassett
BASSETT David Dale Bassett (1939 - 2014) Dale Bassett passed away peacefully in the early evening hours of July 19, 2014. He was born November 14, 1939, the youngest of 3 children of Herman and Julia Bassett. He was born and grew up in Jacksonville, in the Murray Hill area, but spent a lot of his time growing up at the family lake property since he was born. He graduated from Robert E Lee High School, where his son David and granddaughter Courtney also graduated. He attended South Georgia College where he met his life long friends, Audie and Jo Ann Lampe. He transferred to the University of Georgia where he graduated in 1963. While at Georgia he met his wife Martha Carolyn Tolbert. He and Carolyn were married in 1963 and she was lovingly by his side right up to his death. Dale worked for the Independent Life Insurance Co as Group Sales Manager for 18 years. In 1990, Dale formed his own independent agency, the Dale Bassett Insurance Agency, which is still flourishing today. The agency is now managed by his other son, Michael, who joined the agency in 1994. In 2000, Dale and Carolyn retired to the family lake property and bought the Melrose Cafe restaurant in 2006. He served as Head of PR & Official Greeter at the cafe. Dale and Carolyn has spent nearly every day at the cafe since then, enjoying meeting many new friends and seeing some life long friends as well. Dale loved his wife Carolyn, his sons David and Michael, especially all his grandchildren, his Dawgs and his Melrose Cafe and its many employees. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Charles. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his sister Phyllis Dixon (Donald) his son David (Melissa and her children Porsche and Hunter) his son Michael, as well as his Grandchildren Courtney, Brewer, Caroline and Allison. Dale will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held soon. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for a donation in his honor to either St Vincents Healthcare Foundation, the University of Mississippi School of Business Administration, or the National Wild Turkey Federation.
