George Henry Bassett
George Henry Bassett, an old newspaper man and one of the editors of the New York Times during that paper?s activities in breaking up the Tweed ring, is dead at his home, 65 Wallingford street, Brighton, aged 63. He was born in Portumna, Ireland, and came to this country when 18, and worked as a reporter on the New York Express. Since that time he has always been engaged in newspaper work either as reporter, editor of correspondent. For 15 years he was the owner of a large fruit ranch in California, but during the time spent there continued his connections with numerous papers throughout this country and Europe. He is survived by a widow and daughter.
