Margaret Adelia Bassett Haley
Margaret Adelia Bassett Haley, resident of the Red Rock area, passed Saturday, August 29, 2009, in Oklahoma City. She was 69. Margaret was born June 22, 1940, in Pawnee, the daughter of Joe Bassett and Genevieve Littlecrow Bassett. She received her early education in Red Rock schools. She had been employed with the Otoe-Missouria Tribal maintenance department prior to her retirement in 2003. Her enjoyments included playing bingo and traveling. Margaret was noted for her meat pies and breakfast sandwiches.
She is survived by her two sons, John Haley of Ponca City and Ronnie Haley of Red Rock; her long-time companion, Van Spottedwolf, and her longtime friend, Alene Adams; three sisters, Linda Francis and Mary Rose Howry, both of Red Rock, and Martha Ruth Koshiway of Del City; one brother, G.K. Bassett of Red Rock; four grandchildren, Jeremy Paul Haley, Alyssa Adelia Haley, Elizabeth Haley and Ron Haley Jr.; three step grandchildren, Elijah Allen, Brianna Allen and Caitlyn Allen; and several other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Victoria Kent; and two brothers, Paul Bassett and Herman Bassett.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, August 31, at Otoe-Missouria Cultural Center with a noon meal to be served on Tuesday, September 1, also at the Cultural Center. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. with burial in the Otoe-Missouria Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Casket bearers will be Dustin Francis, Jim Selby, George Koshiway, Deswood Koshiway, Wesley Twins and Jeremy Haley. Honorary casket bearers will be Jerome Koshiway, Garland Arkeketa, Frank Kent and Tony Francis.
