Anthony "Tony" Morris Bass, 85, of Gainesville, GA, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at North Georgia Assisted Living in Dawsonville, GA.
Tony was born on February 20, 1941, to Morris Lee Bass and Bessie Adams Bass. He was a proud graduate of the Grady College of Journalism at the University of Georgia in 1964 and a diehard Dawg and SEC football fan. He married Janet Blankenship Bass on May 21, 1966, at the Baptist Tabernacle in Atlanta and served many years as a Chief Probation Officer for the State of Georgia. Tony loved traveling with his family and is lovingly remembered for always making them laugh.
Tony is preceded in death by his father, Morris Lee Bass; mother, Bessie Adams Bass; sister, Barbara Bass May; brother, Jesse Manly "JM" Bass; and wife, Janet Blankenship Bass. Survived by son and daughter-in-law Richard and Sandra Bass of Oakwood, GA, daughter and son-in-law Leah Bass Harwood and Larry Harwood of Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren Katie Harwood Baugh and husband, John, of Evansville, IN, Anslie Bass of Oakwood, GA, Bailey Armour and partner Johnny Burke of Lexington, KY, Trent Armour and fiancée Lindsey Coles of Jefferson, GA; and great-granddaughter Frankie Baugh of Evansville, IN along with a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation with family will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville with a remembrance service to follow. The Rev. Dr. Colonel Bill Car will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the University of Georgia Scholarship program.
