East Providence ? Raymond P. Bassett
RAYMOND P. BASSETT, 72, of Campbell Avenue, Rumford, a chef for 17 years at the former Asquino's Restaurant in East Providence and previously the manager of the Waldorf Cafeteria, Providence, died yesterday in the Elmhurst Extended Care Center, Providence. He was the husband of Helen (Silva) Bassett.
Born in Salem, Mass., son of the late Arthur and Alma (Breault) Bassett, he lived in East Providence for many years.
A World War II Navy veteran, he and five of his brothers served during World War II and his mother received a Letter of Commendation from President Roosevelt for allowing six sons to serve in the war.
He was a member of the Primer-Cordeiro Post 5385 VFW, East Providence.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Raymond T. Bassett, at home; three brothers, Leo Bassett of Long Island, N.Y., Roger Bassett of North Attleboro, Mass., and Gerard Bassett in Arizona; and a sister, Rita Duquette of Berkeley, Mass. He was brother of the late Robert, Roland and Albert Bassett.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. from the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 at Sacred Heart Church, Taunton Avenue. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
