      Gene Bassett

      Gene Bassett, 79, of Moline, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001 at home.
      He was born May 6, 1922, in Hamilton, Mont., the son of Earl and Emma Amundson
      Bassett. He married Gladys Murk on March 6, 1948 in Abindgon. Surviving are
      his wife; one daughter, Carolyn (and Julio) Garcia, Aurora; one son, Tom (and
      Phyllis) Bassett, in France; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death
      by his parents, one sister and one brother. He was a Marine Corps veteran of
      World War II. He worked at John Deere Plow and Planter for 25 years, retiring
      in 1984. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Milan. He was a member
      of the Andalusia and Rock Island Lions Clubs, and was active with the
      Andalusia Fire Department, Andalusia City Council and the Boys Scouts. Funeral
      services were held Saturday in Family Funeral Services, Milan. Burial was in
      Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Pathw
      Hospice or the American Lung Association.
