Raymond John Bessette Sr. (Picture included)
ARGYLE, NY - Raymond John Bessette Sr., 89, died Saturday afternoon June 18, 2016, at Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness.
He was born March 19, 1927, in Montreal, Canada, the son of Philias and Angelina (Bouchard) Bessette.
Raymond was a graduate of Bridgewater High School, Bridgewater, MA., class of 1948.
He enlisted in the United States Navy and served in WW II.
Raymond was a member of the Granville, NY, American Legion and the Roofers Association.
He was well known in the Hartford, CT, area for his roofing and also his custom designed pools. Raymond enjoyed horseshoes, playing pool, spending time with his family and enjoying a cold beer.
He is survived by his children Margaret Bessette, of NH, Lawrence "Larry" Bessette of MO, Clare Jameson of NY, Carol Bessette of NC, Raymond John Bessette Jr. of MA, Connie Bessette of RI, Cindy Bessette of FL, Kathy Guest of SC, Christine Bessette and Tamara Bessette, both of VT. Also by his sister, Rita Lacourture of MA; and his 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; son, Mark Bessette, in December of 1991; and his siblings, Roger, George and Gaston Bessette, Fern Piche and Frances Cobb.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, at 266 Allen Ave., Poultney, VT 05764.
The Rev. Daniel Jordon will officiate.
Visiting hours will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
Burial with military honors will follow in St. Raphael Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home.
