Ernest J. Bessette, Jr. April 29, 1949 - August 3, 2011 Plainfield - Ernest J. Bessette, Jr., 62, of 23 Major Dr. beloved husband of Irene (Mercier) Bessette passed away unexpectedly Wednesday at his home. He was born April 29, 1949 in Putnam a son of the late Ernest J. and Dorothy (Bonin) Bessette, Sr. and had lived in Plainfield for most of his life. Mr. Bessette was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Viet Nam war. He was employed as a welder at Electric Boat for 30 years, retiring in 2005. Mr. Bessette was a member of the Plainfield Police Commission, Plainfield Democratic Town Committee, VFW Post 5446, and was active at the VA center in Norwich. Besides his wife he leaves a son Ernest J. Bessette, III and his wife Jessica; a daughter, Melissa Wilcox and her husband Todd of Plainfield; a brother Gary Bessette of Thompson; a sister Leona Korrecta of Central Village; five grandchildren, Nicole Wilcox, Brian Wilcox, Owen Bessette, Olivia Bessette and Gavin Bessette. Also several nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in Evergreen Cemetery, Central Village. There are no calling hours. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Norwich Veterans Center, 2 Cliff St. Norwich, CT. 06360. Dougherty Bros. Funeral Home, Plainfield has been entrusted with arrangements.
