Alfred L. Bessette
Alfred L. Bessette, 69, of 1206 Locust St., Owensboro, died Friday, April 8, 1994, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Louisville. He was born in Brattleboro, Vt.; was employed in manufacturing and engineering at General Electric Co. in Syracuse, N.Y., and Daytona Beach, Fla., before retiring; and was a member of Painters Local No. 156 in Evansville and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 696, American Legion Post No. 9 and AMVETS Post No. 75, all in Owensboro. He was a Navy veteran and served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during World War II as a gunner's aviation radioman 2nd class with Patrol Bomber Squadron No. 22.
Survivors include his wife, Linda F. Bessette; five sons, David Bessette, Wayne Bessette and Gary Bessette, all of Daytona Beach, and Rusty Pannett and Scott Pannett, both of Tell City, Ind.; three daughters, Cheryl Altman of Vidalia, Ga., Sandy Jones of Tell City and Lisa Corley of Lewisport; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Lev Bessette of Orange, Mass.; and two sisters, Virgil Widney and Beatrice Lewis, both of Rutland, Vt.
He will be cremated and his ashes scattered at sea from a U.S. Navy vessel. A monument dedication will be held at a later date in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville. Portland Memorial Chapel, 518 N. 26th St., Louisville, is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Disabled American Veterans Unit, c/o Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 800 Zorn Ave., Louisville, Ky. 40206.
