Donald J. Bessette Sr.
January 2, 1935 ? June 22, 2009
GRISWOLD ? Donald J. Bessette, Sr., 74, of Osga Lane and Port Charlotte, FL passed away Monday at the W.W. Backus Hospital. He was born January 2, 1935 in Norwich, CT, son to the late William and Catherine (Osga) Bessette, Sr. Donald worked for many years as a Union Mason. He served in the US Marines during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post 10004 of Jewett City and the American Legion Post 15. Don was a very loving father and grandfather and was always there when anyone needed him. His loving heart and generosity extended to his nieces and nephews, other extended family members, and friends. Donald had a special place in his heart for his summer home on Pachaug Pond and winter home in Port Charlotte Florida. He is greatly loved and will be sadly missed by all of those who knew him. He is survived by three children Lisa Calvert of Jewett City, Sandra Nagel and her husband Lewis of Griswold, and Donald Bessette, Jr. and his wife Jeannine of Lebanon, six grandchildren Devin Spicer, Zachariah Nagel, Kathleen Calvert, Kaitlin Nagel, Dean Calvert, and Dylan Bessette. He was predeceased by his first wife Kathleen Coffey and he is survived by his former second wife Kathleen Sellick Bessette and his loving partner Carmela Carlson. The funeral will assemble Friday at 9:00 AM at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road Rte 138 Jewett City, CT. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00AM at St. Mary Church, Jewett City. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Griswold. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6:00 ? 8:00 PM.
