Normand M. Bessette
Normand M. Bessette, 81, of Manchester, beloved husband of Rita A. (Beauregard) Bessette, died Friday, April 20, 2001, peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Bedford, Mass., Feb. 13, 1920, he was the son of the late William A. and Evelina (Lague) Bessette. He was a resident of East Hartford for almost 50 years, moving to Manchester three years ago. Mr. Bessette was a self-employed plumbing contractor, establishing his business in 1953, and was past president of the Connecticut Plumbing Contractors Association.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a World War II veteran. He was a communicant of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, served on the building committee, and was a member of the Men's Club. He was also a charter and life member of BPOE 2063 Elks Lodge, Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion, all of East Hartford.
Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Simone and Allen Tedford of South Windsor, Michelle and Herb Weeks of Westminster, Vt., son-in-law, Alex Macdonald of Manchester; grandchildren, William and Marjorie Weeks of Hillsboro, N.H., Ronald Tedford of Las Vegas, Steven Tedford of Binghamton, N.Y., and Maureen Macdonald of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Corrinne Macdonald.
The funeral service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, from Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery, Manchester. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 23, at the funeral home.
