William Carter Bassett
William Carter Bassett, born February 11, 1935, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, came to Texas as fast as he could at 6 months of age. He departed his beloved Texas on April 25, 2014, for an even better place. He was a husband, father, son, brother, friend and, among other things, a machinist, instrument maker, problem solver, sharpshooter, archer, gunsmith, firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Reserve Deputy Sheriff, City Marshal and forever a Marine. He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Carter Bassett and Charline (Masters) Bassett, his mother and beloved step-father, Gertrude Alice (Keeling) Colgin, and Charles K. Colgin, his brother, John Charles Colgin and his daughter, Leasa Kay Bassett. He is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Hazel Marie (Gandre) Bassett; his daughters, Bren Bassett-Pechacek and Romi Jon Bassett; his grandson, Joseph Bassett-Pechacek; his brothers, Benjamin Reid, Earl Charles Bassett, Stephen Bassett, Robert Bassett; and his sisters, Lynda Gale deMaria, Teresa Pichoff and Carol Bowes. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 29, at Harrell Funeral Home at 100 Heritage Dr. on Hwy. 290, Dripping Springs, 5:30 P.M.
