Mrs. Elizabeth J. Bass Dead
Mrs. Elizabeth J. Bass died at her home on east Florence street, Thursday night October 19, after a severe illness of over thirteen weeks, of paralysis.
She was buried Saturday morning in Laurel Oak Cemetery, the funeral services being conducted by the Rev. J.E. McDonald, at the M.E. Church South.
Mrs. Bass was born in Boone County, on February 18, 1840. Her parents had moved there from Kentucky where they were raised. When about sixteen years of age, her family moved to Henry County and in 1859 she was married to J.F. Wall at Calhoun. Two children were born to them. E. E. Wall, of Tebo township, and J.F. Wall, of this city. Mr. Wall was killed on August 16, 1862, at the battle of Lone Jack, where he fought under the banner of the Confederacy. About seven years afterward, she again married, this time to Jas. H. Bass, who it will be remembered, died only last June. To this union four children were born, all now living. Mrs. J.E. Carmichael, of Holden, Johnson County, Mrs. Dr. Hollis Hayden, of Kirsville, Adair County, and Misses Ella and Bessie, Bass, of this city.
Beside her children, her sister, Mrs. J.M. Avery and husband and brother John L. Woolfork and wife, of Clinton, are left to mourn her loss.
