Artis Bass
Artis Bass, 60, Perry, died yesterday at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Perry. He was born in Madison County and had lived most of his life in Madison and Taylor counties. He was a dragline maintenance employee with Cabbage Grove Mining Co. of Perry. He was an army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, James Artis Bass, Madison; a stepson, Danny Settles, Greenville; four daughters, Debra Padgett and Aleta Bass, both of Perry; Nona Markham and Delcie Stephens, both of Sarasota; three brothers, Eddie Bass and J.M. Bass, both of Madison, and Frederick Bass, Cherry Lake; two sisters, Mary Jane Tuten and Mattie Lou Leslie, both of Madison; and eight grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the chapel of T.J. Beggs Jr. and Sons Funeral Home with burial at the San Pedro Cemetery in Madison. T.J. Beggs Jr. and Sons Funeral Home of Madison is in charge of all arrangements.
