BASSETT ? The marriage of Miss Roxann Bassett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Edwin Bassett Sr., to Dwight Lynwood Dillon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvel Trotter Dillon of Martinsville, took place yesterday at 4 p.m. in Bassett Memorial Methodist Church.
Mrs. John Edwin Bassett Jr., of Bassett, sister-in-law of the bride, was matron of honor and Miss Rebecca Adams of Bassett was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Rosa Louise Jarrett, cousin of the bride, and Miss Mary Jo Davis, both of Bassett; Miss Sylvia Sturkle of Charloettesville and Miss Eleanor Thornhill of Lynchburg.
Sherry Carol Bassett of Bassett, niece of the bride, was flower girl.
Owen Randolph Minter of Martinsville was best man. Ushers were Curtis L. Dillon and Aubrey H. Dillon, brothers of the bridegroom, J. Harry Barnes and Albert H. Beane, all of Martinsville; Charles C. Bassett and John Edwin Bassett Jr., of Bassett, brothers of the bride; Marvin K. Ross of Raleigh, N.C., and L. Julian Crockett of Winston-Salem, N.C.

In Memory of Roxann Bassett Dillon

Roxann Bassett Dillon, granddaughter of Charles Columbus Bassett, co-founder of Bassett Furniture Industries and daughter of J. E. "Ed" Bassett, Sr., former C.E.O. and Chairman of Bassett Furniture Industries, passed away peacefully in her home on January 25th , 2016 surrounded by her family. She was 82.
Roxann was born on April 8, 1933 in Bassett, to John Edwin Bassett, Sr. and Ruby Williams Bassett. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Lynwood Dillon, Sr. and brothers John Edwin "Eddie" Bassett, Jr and Charles Columbus Bassett, III.
Roxann, "Mama Dill", is survived by her three devoted children and four loving grandchildren: Son, Dwight Lynwood "Len" Dillon, Jr and wife Mary Kate Dillon of Stanleytown and grandchildren Caitlin Dillon Purinai and husband Jon Purinai of Raleigh and Molly Stewart Dillon of Charlotte; Son, Hiram Thomas Dillon of Stanleytown; and daughter Ruby Ann Davis and husband Matthew Alan Davis and grandchildren Sarah Fey Davis and Aubrey Egan Davis all of Bassett.
Roxann attended Salem Academy and Randolph Macon Woman's College. She taught at Campbell Court elementary school before becoming a full-time homemaker. Roxann was a selfless giver and quick to be involved with a number of community organizations and causes including the American Red Cross and Patrick Henry Community College. She was a devoted member of Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church and was a regular face at the Community Meal and organizer of the Ruby Bassett annual rummage sale. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a generous, strong and loving mother who showed them how to be compassionate and enjoy life.
A funeral is scheduled for 2:30, Friday, January 29, 2016 at Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church. Pastor Russ Gresham, IV will officiate the service. Family will receive friends at the church starting at noon prior to the service. Entombment will follow at the Bassett Family Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church at PO Box 408, Bassett, Virginia 24055 or Mountain Valley Hospice, 18981 Jeb Stuart Highway, Stuart, Virginia 24171.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to caregivers Martha A. Davis, Demetra Hairston, Victoria Martin, Keela Rakes, Taylanda Wimbush and Cornelius Edmonds. Special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice for their exceptional guidance and care during this special journey.
