William R. Bessette Sr.
LINCOLN, R.I. - William R. Bessette Sr., 84, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 15, 2007, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Alfred and Mary (Cavanagh) Bessette. Mr. Bessette was the husband of Noella L. (Leduc) Bessette, to whom he was married for 51 years.
Mr. Bessette, together with his brothers and his children, founded and operated Bessette Hardware stores in Pawtucket and in Lincoln.
A World War II Navy veteran, he was a graduate of St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, William and his wife Lisa of Sandwich, Joel and his wife Deborah, Vincent and his wife Lee of Lincoln, and James and his wife Kathleen of Cumberland; four daughters, Maryanne Bessette, Joan Morin and her husband Charles, Michelle Carr and her husband Paul, and Monique Clauson and her husband Eric, all of Lincoln; a daughter-in-law, Shannon Murphy Bessette of Cumberland; and 23 grandchildren. He was the father of the late Charles N. and Marc Q. Bessette. He was the brother of John, Philip, Gilbert and Paul Bessette, Virginia Fortin, and the late Alfred Bessette.
His funeral will be held Thursday, at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the St. Jude Church, Front Street, Lincoln. Burial will follow in the Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
