Pawtucket ? Leo A. Bessette Sr.
LEO A. BESSETTE SR., 92, of Gardner Street, founder and owner of the E & L Trucking Co. before retiring in 1980, died yesterday at the Madonna Manor in North Attleboro, Mass. He was the husband of Edith E. (Lawson) Bessette.
Mr. and Mrs. Bessette celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last year.
Born in Cumberland, a son of the late Henry and Eugenie (Willett) Bessette, he lived in Pawtucket for many years.
Mr. Bessette began in business in the 1940s. He was a member of Le Foyer, the Elks and the Teamsters Union, Local, 251.
Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Evelyn M. Kaveny of Cumberland; two sons, Leo A. Bessette Jr. of Pawtucket and Robert D. Bessette of Seekonk, Mass.; a sister, Helen MacLean of East Weymouth, Mass.; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Delia Menard, Marie Lennon, Pauline Gustafson and George, Edmund D. and Gerald Bessette.
The funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at Sacred Heart Church, Park Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
