      James R. Steward, age 78, of Ashwaubenon, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015, with his wife by his side. He was born on March 28, 1937, in Appleton, to the late Harold and Thelma (Bessette) Steward.

      Jim graduated from Clintonville High School with the class of 1955. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years as a cryptologist. On March 2, 1956, Jim married his high school sweetheart Mona Sue Fritsch in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Together, Jim and Sue had three children and also cared for 117 babies over a period of 40 years as licensed foster parents.

      Jim worked and traveled around the world for Amplas, Inc. as a service manager for 14 years before retiring in 1996. Previous to Amplas, he also worked at Diebold and FMC, and after retirement he worked part-time jobs at Schenkers, Inc., Mike's Distributing, Midwest Carriers, Martin Security, and was part owner of a Blimpie Subs for several years.

      Jim was a hard worker, handyman, and devoted family man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He was involved in local politics, coordinating several political campaigns in the 1970's. Jim was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards and cribbage, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and cats.

      Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Sue; three children, Mark Steward, Madison; Todd Steward, Green Bay; and Linda (Brett) Buratti, De Pere; grandchildren, Lindsay, Michael, Alex, Natalie, and Dominick; great-grandson, Gavin; brothers William and Robert; sisters, Carol (Gerald) Soufal and Valerie (John) Geer; and brother-in-law, Bill Fritsch.

      Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda.

      Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue, Green Bay, with Sharing of Memories and Military Honors at 7:00 pm. Condolences may be expressed at www.lyndahl.com.

      In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jim's memory.
