Joseph Douglas Rankl (Picture included)
Joseph Douglas Rankl, 81, of Glastonbury and previously of Avon, loving and devoted husband of Dorothy (Bessette) Rankl, passed away on Saturday (May 30, 2015) at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Hartford, the son of the late Joseph Rankl Jr. and Eugenie (Baumgartner) Rankl. Joseph served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He retired in 1999 as Superintendent of the Parks and Recreation Department in the town of Simsbury. Joseph was an avid fisherman, and he co-founded the Talcott Mountain Bassmasters Fishing Club. He also enjoyed camping, collecting antique fishing lures, and spending time with his family. Joseph was a social, happy guy. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, father-in-law and friend. Besides his wife Dorothy, Joseph leaves behind his son, Steven Rankl and his wife Maria of Glastonbury; two daughters, Linda Tedone and her husband David Gitlin of Washington State, and Pamela Lindley and her husband George of Simsbury; his brothers-in-law Robert Bessette and his wife Gail of Glastonbury and Raymond Bessette and his wife Janet of Simsbury. He also leaves his grandchildren Michelle Tedone, Joseph and Alba Tedone, Steven Rankl Jr., Britta Rankl, Jordan Cartagena, and Max Lindley, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
