Margaret Bassett Hackworthy, age 88, passed away at 2:30 a.m.
Thursday, June 27, 1991 at Peabody Manor, Appleton where she resided since
December 15, 1983... Graduated from Appleton High School as valedictorian and
recipient of the Craftsmanship Shield. After graduating from the University of
Chicago with election to Phi Beta Kappa she taught English and Histo
Appleton High School from 1924 to 1938. She was president of the Northeastern
Education Association from 1937 until 1938... During World War II, she did a
great deal of substitute teaching at Appleton West. She was a lectur
Freshman Studies at Lawrence University for 10 years and taught at Xavier High
School for four years. Margaret was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church; a
member and former president of the Infant Welfare Circle of Kings Daughters;
The Wednesday Club; Chapter B of the PEO Sisterhood. She is survived by two
first cousins; Jeanne Bassett, Oxford, Ohio; Hester Bassett Sasman, Redding,
California; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Hackworthy Root, Appleton, Louise D.
Hackworthy, Milwaukee; and nieces and nephews of her late husband.
