A committal service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, followed at 4 p.m. by a memorial at The DeLand Stockyard restaurant. Born Jan. 10, 1952, in Fairborn, Ohio, Robert moved to this area in 2002 from Fort Lauderdale. He served in the U.S. Army as a wheel mechanic, 1969-75, worked as a brakeman for CSX railroad, and enjoyed working on cars, and building and repairing computers. Robert is survived by his sons, Jeremy William Bassett of DeLand and Robert Richard Bassett of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; daughter Karen Bassett of Los Angeles; brother Richard Bassett of Hampton, Virginia; sister Karen Manchester of Chicago; grandchildren Brayden Bassett, Stephen Bassett, Jansen Bassett and Ashlyn Bassett, all of Lancaster; and ex-wife and caregiver Giseuda Bassett of DeLand. He was preceded in death by his brother Stevie Bassett, his father, Lorin Edwin Bassett, and his mother, Dorothy Jane Smith.
