Byron Bassett, age 89, of Tracy, passed away Sat., Mar. 12, 2005. He was born
Jul., 14, 1915 in Woodward, OK. Services: Memorial Sat. Mar. 19, 2005 at 11
am. Grace Baptist Church, 1330 N. Tracy Blvd., Tracy. Committal is private at
Tracy Public Cemetery.

Byron Bassett, 89
Longtime train engineer
TRACY - Byron Bassett, a train engineer, died on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at
Sutter Tracy Community Hospital. He was 89. Mr. Bassett was born on July 14,
1915, in Woodward, Okla., and had lived in Tracy for 58 years. He was a
locomotive engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad for 45 years before
retiring. He was a member and past president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive
Engineers. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Mt. Oso Masonic and the
Sacramento Shriners. He also was involved at the Lolly Hansen Senior
Center and served on the board of the Tracy Interfaith Ministries. He is
survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Bassett of Tracy; children, Byron
Gene Bassett and his wife, Ginger, of Salinas, Donald Bassett and his wife,
Sandy, of Auburn and Linda Smith and her husband, Bill, of Tracy; sisters,
Maxine Culp of Woodward, Okla.; grandchildren, Douglas Bassett of Roseville,
Byron Bassett Jr. and his wife, Dana, of North Carolina, David Bassett and his
wife, Jolante, of North Carolina, Susan Bassett of Salinas, Kelley Bassett and
his wife Shelley of North Carolina, Rebecca Robinson and her husband Eric of
Chicago, Ill., Jason Smith and his wife Shelby of Tracy, Trevor Smith of
Tracy; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters. A
memorial service will held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church, 1330
N. Tracy Blvd., Tracy. A reception will follow. Donations can be made to Tracy
