      Maurice R. Bessette, 76

      LEOMINSTER - Maurice R. Bessette, 76, of 130 Arlington St., a retired boiler-plant operator, died yesterday in Clinton Hospital after an illness.

      He leaves his wife of 49 years, Jacqueline M. (Molloy) Bessette; four daughters, Claire J. Johnson of Little Compton, R.I., Deborah A. Magnus of Rehoboth, Maureen J. Seeto of North Springfield, Va., and Janet R. Bessette of Mason, N.H.; a brother, Orient Bessette of Leominster; five sisters, Gertrude Montaquila and Estelle Cuddahy, both of Leominster, Mae Haney of Lunenburg, Doris David of Fryeburg, Maine, and Gisele Nault of Gardner; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Barton, Vt., son of Dorea and Eva (Soucy) Bessette, and was raised in Glover, Vt. He lived in Leominster 58 years.

      He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

      Mr. Bessette was a boiler-plant operator at Cutler Hospital at Fort Devens in Ayer for 10 years, retiring in 1987. He was previously a third-class fireman at Borden Chemical Co.

      He was a member of St. Cecilia's Church and a stamp club. He was an ardent gardener.

      The funeral will be held Thursday from Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic St. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Massachusetts, 1 Kendall Square, Building 200, Cambridge, MA 02139.

      MAURICE R. BESSETTE, 76, of Arlington Street, Leominster, Mass., a boiler-plant operator for 10 years at Cutler Army Hospital at the former Fort Devens, retiring in 1987, died Feb. 15 in Clinton Hospital, Clinton, Mass. He was the husband of Jacqueline M. (Molloy) Bessette.

      Born in Barton, Vt., a son of the late Dorea and Eva (Soucy) Bessette, he lived in Leominster 58 years.

      Mr. Bessette was previously a fireman at the former Borden Chemical Co. in Leominster. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

      He was a member of St. Cecilia Church and the Wachusett Philatelic Society. He was an avid gardener.

      Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Claire J. Johnson of Little Compton, Deborah A. Magnus of Rehoboth, Maureen J. Seeto of North Springfield, Va., and Janet R. Bessette of Mason, N.H.; one brother, Orient Bessette of Leominster; five sisters, Gertrude B. Montaquila and Estelle C. Cuddahy, both of Leominster, Mae E. Haney of Lunenburg, Mass., Doris David of Fryeburg, Maine, and Gisele M. Nault of Gardner, Mass.; and five grandchildren.

      Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster.
