BASSETT Funeral services for Robert Bassett, 91, will be held at 10:00a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard South with Father John Guarnizo officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Born October 12, 1925 in Bainbridge, Georgia to Mable and Robert Bassett, Mr. Bassett died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 in Jacksonville. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Wildwood during World War II; was a longtime member of the Florida Carpenters Union, Local 627; and was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Kitty Bassett. He is survived by his children, Susan Ebbs, Robert B. Bassett, Mary Jane Wheeler, Jacqueline Jacob, and Edward Bassett; a sister, Margaret Childers; a brother, Dewey Smith and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. on Sunday.
