Martha Bassett Merrell, age 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 in San Antonio, Texas.
She was member of the Order of Eagle at Air Force Village II.
She was preceded in death by her husband, General Jack G. Merrell in 1993.
She is survived by her son, Jack G. Merrell, Jr.; daughter, Suzanne M. Wright; twin sister, Mary B. Glawe; sister, Betty Martin; sisters-in-law, Louise Kilgore and Elizabeth B. Cason; seven grandchildren, Kirstina Chatfield, Jennifer Hague, Lora Thompson, Margaret Garnett, David Garnett, Jack G. Merrell III and Terri Lynn Schaffer; twelve great-grandchildren; one niece, and six nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Air Force Village Charitable Foundation for Freedom House, 5100 John D. Ryan Blvd., San Antonio, TX 78245.

Col. Bassett Funeral Set
Funeral services will be held in Washington Tuesday for Col. James Albert Bassett, 39,, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Bassett of 6975 Bob-o-link Drive, who was killed Friday in a helicopter accident at Carthage, N.C.
Burial is expected to be in Arlington National Cemetery for Colonel Bassett, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and of West Point Military Academy, his father said Saturday.
Bassett was born and reared in Dallas. He attended Rice Institute one year and was graduated from West Point in 1938. He was assigned to the Army's airborne command.
Besides his parents, Colonel Bassett is survived by his wife and two sons. Steven Cook Bassett and David Hays Bassett, all of Fort Bragg, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. H. Fred Martin Jr., Bethesda, Md., Mrs. B.E. Glawe, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Ala., and Mrs. Jack G. Merrell, Arlington, Va.
