Marshall Bass Found Guilty Of Murder
Dublin, Ga. Feb. 23 ? Marshall Bass was convicted there tonight by a jury of a charge of killing his wife near here several months ago.
Bass pleaded that the shooting was accidental, the gun being discharged when his 5-year-old son grabbed it as he and his wife and the boy were walking along the road. Mrs. Bass was carrying her baby in her arms at the time, and according to her dying state as related to the jury by Dr. W.R. Brigham, Bass shot her in anger over a visit she paid her father.
Counsel for Bass applied for a new trial and March 26th was set for a hearing.

Condemned Murderer Shows Emotion For First Time
Dublin, Ga.; Nov. 16 ? Visibly moved for the first time since he was incarcerated, Marshall Bass, condemned to die on January 5 for the murder of his wife, wept openly and unrestrainedly when he was taken, as an act of kindness to him, to witness the burial of his mother, Mrs. Wesley bass, who has cared for his children since he killed his wife.
The funeral was held at Snow Hill Church, and Bass was taken there by Sheriff L.F. Watson.
Bass was vislbly affected by the funeral and wept bitterly throughout the service. Since the death of his wife, for which he is under sentence, his two small boys, now aged seven and four, have been residing with his parents, and were the especial charges of his mother. With Bass ni the shadow of the gallows and no ray of hope present, there was nothing but sorrow at this funeral.
The condemned man embarced his two small sons, who clung to him, while tears ran down his cheeks and members of the family gathered around him. It was a funeral the like of which Laurens County has not seen.
Added to the sorrow of his mother?s death, there came to Bass the realization that it was probably the last time he would ever see the fields and woods, the creeks and swamps of his county, again, and probably the last ride he would take before he was carried to his own last resting place. Sorrow added to sorrow marked this funeral, and for the first time since his incarceration in jail Bass was deeply moved.

Convicted Slayer Of Wife Asks Clemency

Dublin, Oct 6. ? It was officially learned here today that the efforts of attorneys for Marshall Bass, convicted murdere of his pretty young wife in this county in 1921, and under sentence ot hang for several months, have succeeded in securing a hearing for Bass? plea for commutation of the sentence. The plea will be heard early next month the report stated.

Fugitive Captured
ATLANTA, July 1 (AP) ? The Georgia prison board announced today that Marshall Bass, Georgia fugitive for eleven years, has been captured in Winchester, Ky. Governor Ellis Arnall immediately prepared extradition papers for his return to the state. Bass was convicted in Laurens county in 1921 of murdering his wife. Waren L. L. Richardson of the Macon county convict camp said the wife was shot with an infant in her arms.
