Raymond C. Bassett, 84, of Mesa, AZ and Lexington, MI, passed away on Thursday, February 22, in Mesa. Raymond met his wife, Shirley, in Michigan and she became his life-long love. They were married for 65 years. He was a devoted family man and beloved by many friends. His greatest delight was to be surrounded by his children; John (Sharon), Ronalee Romine (John), Viki Reed (Steve), Kip (Linda), Steve (Teri) and Chad (Kimberly), his 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He loved being involved in all of their activities. Raymond was born on February 17, 1923 in Roseville, MI to Garfield and Reta Bassett. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roger and sister Marion. Raymond answered his country's call to service during WW II and was a P.O.W. for 11 months. Upon returning home, he joined the Detroit Police Dept. retiring after 22 years. A memorial service will be held in Mesa on Saturday, February 24 at the Coronado Park.
