Joseph Bassett
Joseph Bassett, 92 years of age, died at the home of his son, Moses Bassett, Tuesday evening after an illness of 10 days. He was born in West Farnham, P.W., in 1824, lived in this country about 60 years. His wife died in 1904. Mr. Bassett leaves two brothers, Louis of Penacook, N.H., and Antoine of Granby, Can., two sons, Moses of this town, Joseph of Northfield, six daughters, Mrs. Joseph Trumble and Mrs. Jennie Consino of this town, Mrs. Chas. Perry of Whitinsville, Mrs. Emma Wood of Springfield, Mrs. Julia Stebbins of Bernardston, more than 50 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at the home Thursday afternoon. Rev. C.S. Pease officiating. Burial was in Guilford, Vt.

1850. He is listed as Joseph's brother and a witness at his
wedding to Julia.
Joseph Bessette, son of Joseph and Zoe (Daudlin) Bessette, was born 13 Sep 1823/4 in Quebec, Canada. He died 8 Feb 1917 in Conway, Franklin County, Massachusetts. He changed his last name to Bassett. He married Julie Bourbeau, daughter of Hilarie and Elizabeth (Leduc) Bourbeau, on 13 Jun 1848 in St. Cesaire, Quebec, Canada. She was born in 1828. She died 26 Jul 1904. They came to Vermont around 1860 where they lived most of their lives as farmers. He is buried in Baker Cemetery in Guilford, Windham County, Vermont.
According to the Bourbeau Family book Julie was the 3rd child of Hilaire Bourbeau and Elisabeth Leduc. Born in St. Cesaire on 1 Jan 1827, Julie was known to the old folks in the family as "La Jule". From the family book we have "On June 13, 1848, the marriage of Joseph Besette, "farmer making his home in the township of Milton", major son of Joseph Besette and Zoe Daudelin of the township of Milton, on the one hand; and Julie Bourbeau daughter of Hilaire Bourbeau and Elisabeth Leduc, of this parish on the other. In the presence of Michel and Mosie Besette, brothers of the groom and Hilaire Bourbeau, father of the bride. /s/L. Turcot, priest".
