Claude E. Bass, 97, Native of Clayton Dies
Claude E. Bass, 97, West Palm Beach, Fla., a native of Clayton, died Monday at the Palm Beach Regional Hospital, Lake Worth, Fla.
There will be no funeral. The body will be cremated. A graveside service will be held Tuesday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, West Palm Beach.
Arrangements are with the Tillman Funeral Home, West Palm Beach.
Surviving are a daughter, Kay Finehout, Clayton; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Whitten, West Palm Beach; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; six step-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Claude and Norris, died previously.
He was born Nov. 26, 1894, in Clayton, a son of Cyrus and Rose Bass. He was a graduate of Clayton High School.
He married Nellie May Alexander of Clayton in August 1912, at the home of the bride's cousin, Lula Shaver, 133 N. Pleasant St., Watertown, with the Rev. D.C. Johnson, then pastor of Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church, Watertown, officiating. Mrs. Bass died in 1942.
He then married Rose Quimby of West Palm Beach.
Mr. Bass was engaged in dairy farming in the Clayton area and was a salesman at the Sears and Roebuck Co., Watertown.
He later moved to Florida and was a salesman at the Montgomery Ward store in West Palm Beach.
