Clayton Soldier Dies In South
Private Martin Bass, Aged 22, A Victim of Pneumonia
Clayon, Oct. 7.-Private Martin Bass died Saturday morning at Camp Jackson, S.C., aged 22 years of pneumonia. The body will arrive about themiddle of this week it is expected, and the funeral will be held from the Odd Fellows temple, Clayton, the arrangements to be completed upon the arrival of the body.
Mr. Bass is the second man in the contingent to leave Clayton a month ago for Camp Jackson to die of pneumonia, the other being Private Harry Payne whose funeral was held Saturday afternoon at St. Lawrence, N.Y.
Mr. Bass was born in the town of Clayotn, N.Y., the second son of Mr. and the late Cyrus A. Bass and had always lived in the same neighborhood where his family now reside.
He was a friend to all and his many friends express deep sorrow for his sudden death.
Mr. Bass, his father, received a telegram Friday announcing that his son was crticially ill with pneumonia at Camp Jackson and on Saturday the second telegram was received announcing his son?s death.
Besides his father there survive two brothers, Claude, who resides in Clayotn and Ernest and one sisters, Florence, who live at homs with their father.
